La Orquesta Esencia is Latin & Caribbean musical variety band. The band is made up of U.S. soldiers stationed throughout the Republic of Korea and Korean nationals. The Bands is composed of a team of vocalists, percussion, brass, and rhythm sections. La Orquesta Esencia translates into English as "Essence Orchestra" was established on July 25th 2002 by their lead vocalist, Fernandito Rentas, who hails from the city of Ponce, Puerto Rico. The concept was created to delight audiences in the Korean peninsula that enjoys Latin Music with a live authentic musical experience since this genre has become so popular since the earlies 90's. The name Esencia was chosen by their first thirteen members that joined Fernandito at Camp Casey, Korea in July 2002. Their first performance was supported by Camp Casey's MWR agency in September 7th 2002 during Hispanic Heritage Month for that year. On June 2003 Esencia then is established in the City of Seoul. Since its creation approximately more than 35 talented musicians have contributed their talents and skills. Many faces have changed within the last 2 ½ years nevertheless this talented musical concept has managed to continue performing not only for the military or Hispanic audiences, but also the Korean Nationals as well. Lotte World Hotel in Seoul. During this event, the best Salsa dancers and couples from the west coast, the Pacific and Korean's owns delighted an audience of approximately 10,000 during the two day event. During the 2003 and 2004 Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrations in the Korean peninsula, La Orquesta Esencia was invited back to back by EUSA / KORO-MWR to provided live entertainment for our military troops throughout the whole peninsula's military installations including service personnel and families at Iwakuni Marine Corp Air Station in Japan. In Jul 2004 Esencia was invited to participate by MWR at the Korea Wide Battle of the Bands and to the All-Army Wide Battle of the Bands Nationals held at Ft. Eustis, Virginia which La Orquesta Esencia took the 1st place for Best Band Awards in both contest. La Orquesta Esencia is very exited and privileged for having opportunity to continue entertaining our Troops, DoD Civilians and Korean Nationals here in the .
